Pemberton Tramway Company provides Tram services through some of
the most picturesque countryside in Australia.
All aboard at the Pemberton Railway Station for these return services which
meander through towering Karri, Marri and Jarrah forest, over trestle bridges spanning rivers and
streams along one of Australia's most majestic rail lines. Trams run south to the Warren River
Bridge. In spring, September and October, the forest is
resplendent with colourful wildflowers.
As you admire the breath taking view on the journey, your tram driver gives an
informative commentary on the forest, the Tramway and the history of the region. All trams
stop at the Cascades and the Warren River Bridge for you to alight and experience the feel of the
forest.
Warren River
– This unforgettable 1¾ hour service shuffles out of
Pemberton, past the Saw Mill and descends deep into the Karri forest. The tram meanders
through the forest, crossing six bridges, stopping at the Cascades and at the Warren River Bridge
where the Lefroy Brook Joins the Warren River. Your tram then returns to Pemberton.

These return services depart Pemberton Railway Station on
selected weekends and during
Western Australian school holidays from June to the last week-end in October, winding through beautiful forest and
farmland north to Eastbrook. Since
its completion in 1914, originally as a State Saw Mills railway, the line has had a very colourful
history. This railway has carried everything imaginable
from machinery to royalty, even experiencing an armed payroll robbery. The opportunity to drive the train is also offered by the tramway with its unique

Driving Experience Courses are not available due
the steam train not operating this season.
Eastbrook Siding– This 1¾ hour service climbs steeply out of
Pemberton past chalets and farms before descending through forest into plantations and
orchards. Once across Vasse Highway, the train descends into the deep forest of the Eastbrook
nature reserve, before climbing up through the forest alongside the Eastbrook River and on to
Eastbrook Siding, 11kms north of Pemberton.

Driving
Experience Courses are available for persons wishing to experience driving a steam locomotive and train. Courses are available from Easter to November 9th each
year. Locomotive Cab Ride
tickets are also available.
The
Locomotive currently available is:
STEAM
LOCOMOTIVE V1213 ~ A 135 tonne 1955 British built 2-8-2. One of 24 operated by the Western Australian
Government Railways (WAGR) in the days of steam from 1955 to 1971, primarily for heavy coal trains and
general heavy freight traffic. This locomotive now operates for the Pemberton Tramway Company
hauling tourist passenger trains.
The
courses are conducted in Pemberton, Western Australia on the 21km railway line between Pemberton and
Lyall, known as the Lambert-Pemberton Tourist Railway. This railway is steeply graded and runs
through forest, rolling hills and farmland.
The
courses involve basic tuition in locomotive, train and safety principles, then driving the steam
locomotive under instruction, hauling two of our regular tourist train services to Eastbrook Siding
and return. A shorter course driving one service only is also available.
The format of the
driving courses is as follows:

welcome to The Pemberton Tramway and an introduction to the Tramway staff.

An
induction session, comprising safety, railway safe working, and various track,
operational and locomotive fundamentals. (approximately 20 minutes).
|
|
|
Basic
practical tuition in the workings of the locomotive, including the location and
operation of the various apparatus. (approximately 20 minutes).

|
|
Approximately
2 ½ hours on the locomotive footplate,
under qualified supervision, driving the locomotive hauling our tourist passenger
train from Pemberton to Eastbrook Siding and return, for the morning or afternoon
services. A total of approx 42kms. The basic course comprises one train service
only.
