Crane 31 in Use

Just occasionally 31 gets used for a big job where a large crane is needed, such as lifting wagons and locomotives or equipment off trucks

V 1213 is lifted to enable front pony to be removed for maintenance

There is not too many cranes in the lower south west that can do this

We have also found that 31 is good for installing a Turntable


31 is packed up and shunted over to the turntable pit

31 is shunted to the edge of the pit, given some sections of the turntable to swing around and then puts them into place

As can be seen here, Crane 31 is a rather useful piece of equipment

If you would like to see Crane 31 operating, you need to be around at the coal heap, after the last steam train journey of the day, during the winter steam season, where you will see 31 being used to coal up V 1213 whilst it is taking water
